I spent every summer on the nursery working with my parents during high school and college. After graduation I moved to Florence, Italy and spent 5 years there, but I still returned home for a few months of every summer to work on the farm. In Florence I worked at a nursery and started my own small garden design business.
I also discovered how much I love teaching, beginning with English and extending to classes on perennials and lectures in Italian to the Florentine garden club. When I returned to the U.S I enrolled in a Ph.D. program in Italian literature at Harvard, which I completed in 2006. I brought the worlds of Italian and gardening together in my thesis, “The English Landscape Garden in Italy: a Literary, Cultural and Artistic Debate.”
I love working with people, creating ongoing relationships and helping transform gardens to be beautiful, useful and exciting.
